The HolKa footbridge

Prague boasts a new footbridge connecting Karlín, Štvanice and Holešovice. The Štvanice footbridge, also known as the HolKa footbridge, is designed for pedestrians and cyclists and is the 20th Vltava river bridge in the capital. The construction, which cost almost CZK 352 million, replaced the former P7 ferry and ran from January 2022 to July 2023. The footbridge features a modern, minimalist design. The authors of the design are Petr Tej, Marek Blank and Jan Mourek. The first plans for the footbridge appeared as early as 1999 in connection with the revitalisation of Štvanice Island. In 2008, a design for a footbridge to the western end of the island was proposed. Until then, the island was connected to the mainland only by the Hlávka Bridge and the Negrelli Viaduct, which is intended only for railway traffic. The footbridge also connects to other pedestrian and cycling routes such as the Žižkov Tunnel.
