Podolí, a picturesque district on the right bank of the Vltava River, lies between Braník in the south and Vyšehrad in the north. On the opposite bank of the Vltava is Smíchov, while to the east of Podolí, Pankrác, which falls under Nusle, and Krč rise on a hill. According to legend, part of the story of Bivoj takes place in Podolí. The first written mention of Podolí dates back to 1222, from the charter of King Přemysl Otakar I.
