Nuselský pivovar

The history of the Nusle Brewery dates back to 1694, when it was founded by Count Jan Josef Sezima of Vrtba. The brewery evolved continuously and a large extension was completed in the second half of the 19th century. By the end of the 1930s, it was one of the largest in Central Europe, producing 90,000 hectolitres of beer a year. Its flagship products were the lager and 14° dark Prelat. The brewery’s era ended in 1960, when beer production was completely ceased and the premises were subsequently used for some time by the Czech Wine Enterprise for wine production. After years of dilapidation, the site is coming back to life, although beer production is not set to return. While preserving the historical elements and typical brewery chimneys, a new neighbourhood with residential housing, shops, restaurants and many other services is evolving.
