Vila Lídy Baarové

  • private

Prague’s Hanspaulka neighbourhood is a place full of beautiful architectural buildings. One of them, dating from 1937, belonged to the family of the Czech actress Lída Baarová. The Dejvice villa owned by Karel Babka, the father of actress Lída Baarová, was designed by Ladislav Žák, an important representative of interwar Functionalism. Today, this beautiful First Republic villa is more or less hidden from the eyes of visitors. Only the back of the house is visible from the street. The villa, with its nautical elements, is intended to mimic an ocean liner, with the mansard roof resembling a captain’s bridge. At the end of the 1960s, Prague mayor Ludvík Černý acquired ownership of the villa and occupied it until 2003. The most recent reconstruction of the listed villa, carried out in 2008, is the work of the architectural studio of Prof. Ladislav Lábus.
