Galerie Rudolfinum

share

One of Prague's most important galleries is located in the neo-Renaissance Rudolfinum building. As an exhibition institution without its own collection, Galerie Rudolfinum focuses primarily on presenting contemporary art from abroad, as well as Czech art. The lavish architecture of the exhibition halls of the large gallery is complemented by the Artpark educational centre, the programme of which builds on currently open exhibitions with the aim of making contemporary art more accessible to children and young people, as well as to adults. The exhibitions are complemented by a diverse range of original programmes, such as the Art Sounds musical production and the CRASH lecture series. Galerie Rudolfinum has been offering visitors free admission to its exhibitions and programmes since 2019.

Artpark

The appearance of Artpark changes with every new exhibition. It introduces the work of exhibiting artists to the youngest visitors in an interactive way, and also organises accompanying programmes for schools and the public or regular children’s workshops. At the same time, it remains a place of creative relaxation for visitors to the Galerie Rudolfinum. The Artpark is located on the ground floor of the gallery, adjacent to the café and the entrance is directly from the Rudolfinum’s hall.

history

The northern building of the Rudolfinum was originally designed by J. Schulz and J. Zítek as an exhibition space for the Krasoumná jednota fine arts association; after 1918, the Rudolfinum was adapted as the seat of parliament, and so exhibitions did not resume here until 1994 with the establishment of Galerie Rudolfinum. A complete refurbishment of the building was completed in 1992.
