Kostel Neposkvrněného početí Panny Marie

The architecture of this modern church in Strašnice has a truly spiritual charge: its tent-like shape symbolises the church following Christ to heaven or the Old Testament journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land. The whole building stretches heavenwards, every detail depicting new life. The particular shape of the cross and the structure of the window frames and door panels (Y) carry the symbolism of life. The parishioners’ long-standing desire for a new church was only fulfilled in 1994 with the consecration of this church based on a design by architect Jindřich Synk. The building, shaped like a three-sided pyramid, is based on a square plan with one quarter omitted, which serves as an outdoor gathering or leisure area. The modern interior gives the impression of a wide open space and the used construction material — wood — contributes to the pleasant warm feeling.
