Kostel Panny Marie Sedmibolestné

The church, which few people call anything other than U alžbětinek, was built as part of the first Prague women’s hospital and convent of the Order of the Sisters of St Elizabeth, on the site where they settled in 1722. It took a mere 18 months from the laying of the foundation stone to the consecration of the building designed by Kilian Ignaz Dienzenhofer. The single-nave church has uniform Baroque furnishings with paintings by Siard Nosecký and Ignác Raab. The most precious work is a late Gothic panel painting of the Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus, created around 1460. The alliance coat of arms on the façade of the church belongs to Maria Margaret of Wallenstein, who was the main donor of the construction.
